Huawei's US ban «not very important»

Huawei rotating CEO Guo Ping believes that the company's US government ban is “not very important” in terms of its global growth prospects.

In an interview with the BBC, Guo said the ban on bidding for US government contracts is having little impact on its growth.

He noted that the company grew 19% in 1H14 without the US market, and that more than 65% of the company's business comes from outside China. If the US decides to lift the ban the company will happily serve the market, he added.

Guo said Huawei is on a mission to make sure its brand name is known by the entire global population.

The company will use its new phablet to attempt to become a global consumer brand. Huawei is the only Chinese company on the Interbrand list of the top 100 global brands.

Huawei has been excluded from bidding for US government contracts for some time, due in part to suspicions that the company might co-operate with the Chinese military. The vendor has repeatedly denied any such co-operation and taken steps to attempt to demonstrate the security of its products, to no avail so far.
