Huawei announced that it has successfully completed a test of LTE-Advanced Category 6 technology, achieving download speeds of up to 300Mbps.

The company collaborated with Qualcomm subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies on the connectivity tests. Huawei SingleRAN equipment and Qualcomm's multi-mode LTE modem Gobi 9x35 were used in the trial.

Huawei said the LTE-A Cat 6 configuration tested would support up to 40 MHz wideband carrier aggregation.

“The successful test marks an important step for LTE-A commercialization,” Huawei president of wireless network products David Wang said.

“We will continue to invest in cutting edge technologies and work closely with industry partners to promote the development of mobile broadband around the world.”

Hong Kong's CSL started upgrading its network to Cat 6 LTE-Advanced in February, asserting that the network will also support theoretical peak speeds of 300Mbps. Singapore's M1 plans to introduce 300Mbps LTE-A by the end of the year, and Australia's Telstra conducted 300Mbps LTE-A trials with Ericsson last year.
