Huawei Technologies has inked a next generation network (NGN) transformation contract worth more than $ 50 million with CANTV, the leading provider of telecommunications services in Venezuela.

In a statement, Huawei said that under the contract, it would help CANTV transfer its traditional analog network to the next generation network and convert legacy voice traffic into an IP-based system that would provide centralized call control, service provisioning and subscriber profiles.

The project entails the deployment of Huawei's U-SYS solution, including soft switches, media gateways, and multi-service access nodes.

"This project is a quantum leap in our ability to provide telecom services to our customers and increment our voice and data portfolio. Huawei's cost-effective solutions were in line with our vision - this was the critical factor that made us select them for the transformation of our PSTN platform," said Miguel Benatuil, general manager for technology and operations at CANTV.

"Our expectations are also very high and we believe Huawei is going to exceed them, incrementing the value that we are adding to our business with this project," he added.

CANTV has been deploying Huawei's U-SYS NGN solution since September 2005.
