Huawei expects to report a roughly 8% increase in 2013 revenue, even in a year of depressed telecom revenues and capex, the company's unaudited results show.

But the preliminary results suggest Huawei will miss its target of 10% revenue growth for the year.

The company estimates that sales revenue grew to somewhere between 238 billion yuan ($39.4 billion) and 240 billion yuan.

Huawei meanwhile expects operating profit in the range of 28.6 billion yuan to 29.4 billion yuan. This would be around a 40% increase to the 19.96 billion yuan operating profit reported in 2012.

The vendor has attributed the solid growth in part to the strong performance of its consumer division, including its smartphone operations.

CFO Cathy Meng said the company's consumer and enterprise divisions collectively generated around 30% of Huawei's revenues for the year.

The carrier network business also achieved growth year-on-year. Within this segment, the proportion of revenue from services and software increased to 37% in 2013 from 34% in 2012.

Meng also revealed that the company invested 33 billion yuan in R&D during the year, marking the first time the company's annual investment in R&D exceeded $5.4 billion.
