Huawei has proposed a new strategy aimed at helping Indonesian telecoms operators use ultra-broadband technology to seize business opportunities and address challenges.

The Ultra-Broadband 2020 strategy aims to enhance the ICT maturity of the Indonesian market as the nation steps up its broadband coverage.

The strategy calls for Indonesian telecoms operators, enterprises and government to work together on constructing an information superhighway to improve citizen lifestyles and business agility.

It encompasses elements including improved network quality, new technologies such as 4K video streaming and an enhanced user experience.

“Huawei believes there is a need to build a New Broadband that helps telecom operators continue to grow with rising demands, providing gigabit broadband everywhere, supports modern business model innovation and agile service creation,” Huawei principal consultant Nigel Bruin said.

The company's CMO for Southern Pacific Lim Chee Siong added that operators are under increasing pressure to deliver real-time, on-demand, all-online, do-it-yourself, and social (ROADS) offerings.

“This coupled with Internet-based industry operations and competitions from OTT vendors are forcing operators to accelerate ICT transformation,” he said.

“Huawei's core responsibilities are to propel ultra-broadband industry development in a sustainable, orderly, and healthy manner, effectively serve telecom operators in Indonesia, and provide optimal end-to-end business and network solutions to help operators achieve business success.”

Telkom Indonesia's executive general manager Arief Mustain added that the operator sees the necessity of establishing an Indonesia FTTH alliance, and has called on other industry players to join the group.
