5G is here. It’s not just a hot topic that dominates the conversation in the telecom industry, but already a reality. We are set to see 5G going live in North America by the end of 2018 and then in South Korea in early 2019, as the industry moves from vision to implementation.

The 5G era will bring boundless connectivity and intelligent automation. According to the Huawei Global Industry Vision (GIV) report, the number of personal smart devices will reach 40 billion, while the total number of global connections will hit 100 billion by 2025, creating a digital economy worth $23 trillion for the industry.

In the 5G era, telecom operators will play an increasingly important role in the creating and delivery of new digital services enabled by 5G, such as smart city, smart home and smart healthcare.

These new digital services and applications, however, also place new demands on operators’ networks, as well as their business and operational capabilities even as the world moves to a more fully immersive digital environment powered by 5G.

How should operators transform their organizations today to fully support the anticipated 40 billion connected devices by 2025? How do they architect their 5G roadmap while continuing to mine their investments in 3G and 4G?

These topics had all been discussed at Huawei’s 5th Operations Transformation Forum (OTF) held from September 03-04 in Munich, Germany.

Transformation & 5G

Under the theme “Transforming Towards Digital Business: Transformation & 5G”, the Operations Transformation Forum (OTF) 2018 brought together more than 600 global operators, regulators, industry analysts and key opinion leaders to share their views on business opportunities and challenges brought by 5G, IoT and cloud.

Together they present insights, case studies and discuss digital transformation best practices, as operators evolve from traditional operator to digital businesses.

The two-day event also featured break-out sessions and roundtable discussions featuring face-to-face, in-depth communication with industry leaders and experts on important topics such as 5G, cloud, IoT, and customer experience.
