Huawei announced it has achieved a peak cell throughput of 20Gbps during a 5G test using 4.9-GHz C-Band spectrum.

The test formed part of the China 5G Technology Research and Development Trial being led by the IMT-2020 Promotion Group.

During the test, Huawei used all 200 MHz of the 4.9-GHz carrier to achieve wide-area coverage, the company said. The trial incorporated 5G new radio, massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO), polar code and other 5G candidate technologies.

The test was designed to complement the 3.5-GHz pre-5G tests conducted by the vendor earlier this year. Huawei is a leading member of the IMT-2020 Promotion Group and is actively contributing to the trials. The company has set up seven 5G trial sites in the Huairou District of Beijing to support large-scale field tests.

Huawei is also involved in multiple 5G trials outside of China, including in Japan with NTT Docomo, and in Europe with Vodafone.
