Huawei is working with Open Network Operating System (ONOS) and Open Networking Foundation (ONF) to build an open SDN industry ecosystem.

The company said requirement for ultra-fast connections and focus on reducing costs has resulted in becoming key for operator network architecture transformation.

ONOS is the industry’s first open source SDN control platform which focuses on operators’ networks and service requirements and considers operators’ demands including high performance, reliability, security, and scalability. Its robust architecture design makes it an ideal choice for operators to develop their business in the future.

Huawei’s SDN solutions will fully support the ONOS platform and, through a close relationship with ONOS, ONF, and Open Platform for NFV, Huawei will focus on creating a cohesive, open, and programmable SDN network architecture to meet the needs of operators.

Dan Pitt, executive director, ONF, said, “Network operators are rushing to benefit from SDN and are increasingly looking to open-source software as an effective vehicle for rapid deployment of key SDN components. ONF is thrilled when our members embrace SDN and open-source technologies to meet critical operator needs and we applaud today’s announcements, which help to build a healthy SDN industry ecosystem.”

Aside from the network side, Huawei will also be working with Intel to deliver public cloud solutions for global telecoms carriers.

Working together, Huawei and Intel plan to concentrate their efforts on developing scalable, optimized and cost-efficient hardware and software platforms for telecoms carriers to use as they deploy cloud-specific usage models across server, storage, network and infrastructure management technologies.

In addition, Huawei announced two new products, including Digital inCloud, digital service aggregation and distribution platform, and its hybrid cloud solution FusionCloud Omni.

Huawei Digital inCloud is designed to help telcos to shape a digital service ecosystem and generate more revenue from digital services.

The FusionCloud Omni solution meanwhile enables interconnection among heterogeneous public and private clouds on a single hybrid cloud.

It also allows smooth deployment and migration of service applications on cloud platforms offered by different vendors, thereby freeing customers from vendor lock-in.
