Huawei and China Telecom have completed the first live network tests for NFV-based virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE).

The companies said the functionalities and performance of vCPE were found to meet the requirements of carriers ad enterprises.

The system was jointly developed by Huawei and China Telecom to address some of the challenges faced by the traditional broadband services segment.

One such issue issue, the companies said, is that traditional services are no longer adequate for the enterprise segment, because new service deployment requires additional hardware and the process is lengthy with low flexibility.

Huawei's vCPE system virtualizes enterprise functions on carrier networks, leaving only simple access functions on the enterprise side.

“Through this live network test of vCPE, we have realized the immense benefits of Network Functions Virtualization to carriers,” said Chen Yunqing, vice president of the China Telecom Corporation Limited Beijing Research Institute.

“This provides software and hardware support for future development and deployment of integrated Cloud services, helping carriers address challenges from cloud computing and big data.”

Huawei separately announced it has teamed up with Infosys to jointly offer enterprise customers with cloud, big data and communication solutions.

Under the collaboration, Huawei hardware will be used to build reference architectures and standardized solutions for big data platforms.

Huawei customer contact technologies and communication services from Infosyss will be combined into an advanced call-service product. The two companies will also consider opening a joint laboratory in China.
