Huawei has signed a $300m network upgrade agreement with Banglalink, the second largest mobile carrier in Bangladesh.

The Chinese vendor will provide a 3G network to the carrier, which plans to deploy services throughout the country. Huawei will modernize the existing network, and seek out savings and service quality improvement, the Dhaka Tribunereports.

Banglalink chief executive Ziad Shatara said the operator will invest $300 million to increase its network capacity. “The network upgrade under this agreement will enable us to modernize the existing network and make it 3G-enabled. At the same time it would let us expand network coverage and increase overall network capacity.”

The company does not have a 3G license, but the government is planning to hold its long-delayed auction on September 2.
