Huawei Technologies said it expects strong growth in its smartphones sale, planning to more than double the shipment to over 10 million in 2011.
Victor Xu, chief marketing officer for Huawei’s device subsidiary, said sales orders for the smartphones this year reaches nearly 4 million units and the company has so shipped over 3 million units, according to ccid.com.
Xu said total handset shipments in 2010 would surpass 120 million units, up 30% from 2009.
Huawei, which is the world’s second-largest vendor of wireless network equipment after Ericsson, is pushing aggressively into the smartphone market by launching low-cost Android smartphones – the Ideos phones, which are intended to bring smartphones to the masses by pushing the price down to about $100 to $200.
