Hong Kong Broadband deploys Juniper routers

Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited has deployed Juniper's M Series Multiservice Edge Routers to support expansion of its international network connectivity, Juniper said Friday.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed City Telecom, HKBN provides broadband Internet access up to 1Gbps, telephony, IPTV, corporate and mobile data services with its self-built Metro Ethernet IP network.

According to Juniper, the Juniper Networks M Series Multiservice Edge Routers have been installed at HKBN's peering point for load-balancing and redundancy.

“Our goal is to become Hong Kong’s largest next-generation service provider by 2016, which we aim to achieve by offering superior service both in terms of infrastructure and customer focus.,” said Ivan Tam, Chief Technology Officer of Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited. “We needed highly-reliable border routers This is the first step in our relationship with Juniper Networks and, as we explore further business opportunities, we look forward to a long-term relationship in our continued pursuit of our Hong Kong market leadership.”

HKBN already has more than 350,000 FTTX broadband customers in Hong Kong, giving it the second largest market share, said Juniper. The service provider aims to extend its network coverage to 90 percent of Hong Kong households by the end of 2012.
