A merger of two home networking organizations aims to provide a smooth transition from HomePNA technology to G.hn, an ITU-T smart home standard.
The HomeGrid Forum and HomePNA Alliance are uniting to ensure fledgling shipments of equipment using the new standard take off, by offering guidance to firms planning to rollout G.hn networks. The merged entity is using the HomeGrid Forum name, and has 70 members comprising service providers, original equipment manufacturers and designers, and retailers.
G.hn is a standard unveiled in 2009 covering provision of multimedia content at speeds up to 1Gbps using existing household wiring, including coaxial cable, and phone and power lines.
HomePNA president, Eran Gureshnik, says the combination will continue to back HomePNA service providers, but will also offer a “clear, strong vision” on the transition to G.hn.
