HKSTP has teamed up with Siemens to launch the first Smart City Digital Hub in Hong Kong Science Park.

The new hub will initially consist of a smart mobility test bed and a smart energy lab to accelerate the development of smart city related digital analytic applications. The hub will open later this year.

It will be powered by industrial technology company Siemens' open source cloud-based IoT operating system MindSphere, which has integrated data analytics and connectivity capabilities.

The platform is designed to provide s infrastructure providers and start-ups a platform to make use of data to develop innovations tackling common city challenges.

HKSTP has been actively steering Hong Kong's smart city efforts as one of the key technology platforms. The company launched Data Studio in February this year to provide a data platform for co-creation with industries and software developers, as well as the Sensor Hub earlier this month to accelerate the test of sensing technologies.

“We are glad to have Siemens, a global technology powerhouse, to join hands in strengthening the support services that we provide to innovators in our innovation and technology ecosystem,” HKSTP CEO Albert Wong said.

“The collaboration underscores the unique role of Hong Kong Science Park as a regional hub that showcases innovative solutions and provides a test bed that helps facilitate technological commercialization, as well as creates enormous synergy for all members in the ecosystem to turn their ideas into reality.”
