Hong Kong's HKBN has made an aggressive play to poach customers of rival HGC Global Communications with an unprecedented promotional offer.
HKBN will offer customers of HGC's residential and enterprise services heavy discounts when switching to a 24-month contract.
Residential customers will be offered 12 months of free fiber broadband with the installation fee waived.
Enterprise customers will be eligible for an up to 50% discount on their monthly fees over the course of the contract, as well as an up to 50% discount on optional HKBN Enterprise Services (HKBNES) mobile services.
The new promotion follows a similar offer of an up to 50% discount for customers switching from Wharf T&T. HKBN also announced that this offer will be extended.
HKBNES COO Billy Yeung said HKBN is flush with excess capacity followed the purchase of the former New World Telecom network. The company acquired the assets for 20 cents on the dollar after New World Telecom sold them for HK$650 million ($82.8 million) in 2016.
“We are now ready to unleash this excess idle capacity for the benefit of Hong Kong enterprises,” he said.
COO NiQ Lai added that HKBN expects its enterprise business to be a primary growth driver for the company over the next few years.
