Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) has teamed up with the Ocean Park theme park to offer free unlimited Wi-Fi access to visitors and staff.
The partnership will involve installing around 470 hotspots across the park to build a network capable of supporting more than 40,000 mobile devices with a transmission speed of up to 1Gpbs.
The 802.11ac Wi-Fi network will span over 915,000 square meters, and cover all guest areas, including attractions, restaurants and stores.
HKBN will install a 160km fiber backbone to allow Ocean Park to extend network bandwidth to meet future demand and upgrade the system as technology improves. A network operation center will also be established to monitor the network and provide real-time technical support.
Ocean Park will offer Wi-Fi services using the common Wi-Fi.HK Wi-Fi brand, which went live in August last year. HKBN is also a participating organization in the Wi-Fi.HK initiative.
The first phase of the Wi-Fi rollout is expected to be complete by the third quarter, and the entire process should be complete in about one year.
HKBN and Ocean Park have also collaborated on an accompanying mobile app offering scheduling, virtual tours, navigation services and other guest services.
