HKBN has announced that its MVNO business has passed 200,000 subscriptions just 10 months after launch.
The Hong Kong broadband operator originally had a target of reaching 150,000 customers in the first 12 months and has already exceeded this target.
HKBN secured an MVNO license last July and commenced trial services in August before launching in September. The operator has arranged to use the networks of both SmarTone and China Mobile Hong Kong for its MVNO play.
Nine in 10 of its subscribers have ported from an existing mobile provider, with 39% making the switch from csl and 1O1O, HKBN said. More than half of its customers are on bundled services with a mix of fiber broadband, home telephone and OTT entertainment subscriptions.
On the enterprise side, around 4,000 companies have signed up for HKBN mobile services and of these nearly 70% are also subscribed to HKBN fixed line services.
“On the one hand, we’ve leveraged super value pricing to providecustomers with affordable premium quality mobile service. On the other, our mobile competitors were forced to follow our path by lowering their price points. Either way, Hong Kong’s mobile customers have all benefited greatly,” HKBN CEO William Yeung commented.
