Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has completed a project to connect Hong Kong outlets of fast food chain KFC to the chain's local headquarters and data centers.

The company has deployed its super retail network (SRN), a metro Ethernet service delivered over a private optical network, to connect nearly 70 KFC outlets to the company's central systems.

KFC will use the network to conduct high-speed multi-point transmission of online orders, point-of-sale data, inventory details, membership bonus point values and promotions.

HGC provided a similar deployment for Pizza Hut Hong Kong earlier this year, according to Jennifer Tan, COO of parent company HTHKH.

“The Super Retail Network solution has been welcomed with open arms by the retail market after launch,” she said. “Today, we are delighted to provide KFC with the same top-notch service enjoyed by Pizza Hut.”

“Our outlets are now connected by HGC’s highspeed and resilient fibre-optic MetroNET service,” KFC marketing director William Tsing added.

“This means data-processing time is overwhelmingly faster and more stable, which shortens the time taken for online ordering and boosts operational efficiency.”
