Smartphones cause hangovers, a US academic claims.

Russell Johnson, assistant professor of management at Michigan State University, says staffs who work on their smartphones in the evening display a similar drop in productivity at work the following day as someone who has been drinking heavily.

The study of US workers found staff had less energy the following day. Johnson blames blue light emitted by smartphones, which inhibits the sleep causing chemical melatonin.
