Globe Telecom and its fully-owned subsidiary G-Xchange (GXI) have formed a strategic partnership with Thailand-based Asiasoft Corporation to deploy the Philippine telco’s GCash as a payment platform for gaming.

“GCash aims to further establish its position as the preferred payment option in the mobile and digital space. We are excited to explore marketing collaborations with Asiasoft to grow gaming-related transactions and bring GCash at the forefront of e-commerce,” said GXI president and CEO Xavier Marzan.

“At the same time, we want to enhance existing Globe customer payment services and provide them with a full digital lifestyle experience," he said.

The partnership allows GCash, the mobile wallet of GXI, to be used as a payment method at PLAYPARK game portal and mobile app checkouts via PlayMall: Asiasoft’s single wallet platform.

This gives GCash customers the option to purchase in-game goods without a credit card, said Globe in a statement.

GCash allows consumers to use their mobile phones to buy prepaid load, pay bills, send money, make donations, shop online, and purchase goods. The GCash wallet can be funded in over 11,500 outlets nationwide or by enrolling in mobile and online banking.

Globe said the partnership is part of the MOU previously signed by both parties, along with other members of the Singtel group such as Singtel, Thailand’s AIS, and Indonesia’s Telkomsel.

Asiasoft is a regional online entertainment service provider with a substantial market share in the Southeast Asia region covering Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines.

The company has been working with its subsidiary Level Up!: an online game publisher in the Philippines whose products include Ragnarok Online and Cabal Online.
