The Philippines' Globe Telecom has entered a partnership to provide free Wi-Fi services to the Tuguegarao City local government unit.
The city government has signed on for the Globe Business Direct Internet service, which allows organizations to maintain a direct connection between offices for data, voice and video application needs.
Under the project, free Wi-Fi services will initially be delivered to all offices in the city hall. The partners aim to subsequently expand the reach of the project to include delivery of free Wi-Fi to public schools.
The initiative also supports Globe's efforts to help transform the Philippines into a digital nation, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goal 9, which emphasizes the crucial role of investment in infrastructure and innovation, being identified as drivers of economic growth and development.
Meanwhile, rival PLDT and mobile unit Sun have announced a partnership with the Cebu City government as well as the Sinulog Foundation to co-present this year's Sinulg Festival, which commences tomorrow.
As part of the arrangements, PLDT is offering free Wi-Fi at the city's major hubs and will offer live streams of the Sinulog events.
The Sinulog Festival is an annual cultural and religious festival which relatively attracts more than 1 million visitors.
