The Philippines' Globe Telecom has escalated a campaign to clamp down on the use of illegal repeaters or signal boosters in the nation.

The operator has been working since 2011 to address network interference caused by this equipment.

Its campaign to address signal interference has now been expanded to include the operation of high-intensity RFID tags.

Globe said that it had so far identified and, in co-operation with authorities, resolved 15 cases involving the use and sale of illegal repeaters or signal boosters.

Examples include indoor and outdoor antennas that boost network coverage at the expense of bandwidth for legitimate network infrastructure.

Globe head of corporate and legal services group Froilan Castelo said the company will now also pursue action against operators of high-intensity RFIDs causing signal interference.

“This should serve as a warning to those who have resorted to selling these illegal equipment that Globe Telecom, in close coordination with authorities concerned, will remain relentless in pursuing retailers peddling these illegal equipment,” he said.
