More Singaporeans are finding OpenNet’s fiber broadband services satisfactory, with about nine out of 10 saying so, a survey shows.

OpenNet is the network company (NetCo) for Singapore's NG-NBN national fiber network.

Acorn Marketing & Research Consultants carried out the study between July and August this year. The satisfaction rating improved from 74% in 2012 to 88% in 2013.

Among satisfied fiber users, one-third is extremely satisfied compared to 27% previously.

The survey also finds that frequency of internet use is high with 83% of customers using it daily. Email access (84%) and video streaming (83%) remain the most popular online activities in 2013.

On average, 77% of the members of any household use the internet, up from 73% last year. Penetration is the highest (almost 100%) among users in the 15- to 34-year age group.

While there are a growing number of fiber subscribers, the study also shows an emerging trend of current fiber users looking to change their internet service providers (ISPs) in the near future, with 7% saying so.

“OpenNet is mindful of this increasing trend and is working to propose to the IDA (Infocomm Development Authority) and the industry stakeholders a process that involves service providers handing-over a fiber connection when the fiber subscriber switches service providers,” said OpenNet CEO Mark Blake.

“We hope this will help minimize the need for unnecessary fibre roll-out while shortening the installation time for end-users,” added Blake.
