Industry sources say some users of NTT DoCoMo's FOMA 3G phones have incurred charges for phone conversations overseas they did not make because someone else talked with phones carrying handset IDs identical to those assigned to their handsets. The handsets were illicitly used in China, Ghana and the Philippines between September 2005 and February of this year.
Nielsen/Net Ratings reports that overall traffic to the Internet in the US rose 12% after Thankgiving over the same day last year. That is significantly below the 29% growth in overall traffic to the index from 2004 to 2005 and more in line with 11% growth seen from 2003 to 2004, the firm said.
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) releases a survey saying British firms are planning to invest more in online advertising as households increasingly use the Internet for routine purchases. Online spending on marketing will rise by 50% from 2.2 billion pounds this year to 3.3 billion pounds (4.9 billion euros) in 2009, said the survey.
