AOL plans to launch a new version of its software that lets users access their email, instant messaging, search and media on the same screen, reports said. The new software, dubbed AOL OpenRide, comes after it announced plans this summer to offer most of its services for free in an effort to boost online advertising sales.

NTT reports that it has successfully demonstrated the ultra-large capacity optical transmission of 14Tbps over a single 160-km long optical fiber. The value of 14Tbps greatly exceeds the current record of about 10Tbps and so claims the record of the world's largest transmission capacity, NTT said.

TeleChoice International expands its presence in Malaysia through its local subsidiary N-Wave Telecoms. N-Wave has secured approval to provide IP telephony services in Malaysia and has acquired the long distance call and international calling card services-related business and assets of the Kajang Inter Group Berhad.

NEC selects broadband semiconductor manufacturer PMC-Sierra to provide NEC with metro transport semiconductor solutions. NEC said the solutions will be integrated with its own wideband solutions.
