Taiwanese operators are continuing to hand out LTE rollout contracts, with Far EasTone now selecting Ericsson as a key LTE supplier.
Far EasTone has contracted Ericsson to supply hardware, software and support services for its LTE rollout, the vendor announced.
Ericsson will supply a 3G/4G RAN and core network across the island. Far EasTone plans to deploy a 150Mbps LTE network using bandwidth in the 700-MHz and 1800-MHz bands.
As part of the deal, Ericsson will also deploy its 4G Cell Broadcast System, which is used for disaster warning services over 4G networks.
Ericsson was a major supplier for Far EasTone's 3G rollout, and the 4G deal marks an extension of this prior partnership.
Far EasTone has previously announced plans to launch LTE services in the third quarter of this year.
Word of the contract comes weeks after Far EasTone rival Taiwan Mobile picked NSN as its sole LTE supplier, and after APT contracted Alcatel-Lucent to build the operator's LTE overlay network.
The Taiwanese government is meanwhile reportedly preparing to auction more LTE spectrum in the 2500-MHz and 2600-MHz bands by early 2015. The first LTE auction raised nearly $4 billion.
