Ericsson has forged a new partnership with Juniper Networks aimed at accelerating 5G transformation.
The two companies have agreed to deliver an end-to-end 5G solution leveraging each others' portfolios for operators worldwide.
The new solution will combine Juniper's routing for next generation WAN services and IP transport with Ericsson's mobile backhaul, fronthaul and microwave portfolios to deliver seamless connectivity from the radio cell site to the mobile core.
Ericsson will provide its management and orchestration platform for the solution, while Juniper will provide its integrated high-performance firewall.
Ericsson separately announced it has arranged to acquire a 100% stake in US-based service assurance technology company CENX to augment its OSS portfolio.
The acquisition will allow the company to enhance its network functions virtualization and orchestration portfolio with closed-loop automation and service assurance capabilities.
"Dynamic orchestration is crucial in 5G-ready virtualized networks. By bringing CENX into Ericsson, we can continue to build upon the strong competitive advantage we have started as partners,” Ericsson head of OSS Mats Karlsson said.
He said Closed-loop automation ensures Ericsson can offer operators an orchestration solution that is optimized for 5G use cases like network slicing, taking advantage of Ericsson's distributed cloud offering.
