Equinix plans to roll out Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric) capabilities across Asia-Pacific in the third quarter.

This new inter-metro connectivity will enable customers in the region to connect on demand to any other ECX Fabric customers in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne and Perth), Hong Kong, Japan (Tokyo and Osaka) and Singapore.

This will allow customers to connect in near real time to service providers, suppliers and other businesses on-demand.

ECX Fabric leverages software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities to allow customers to enable multiple connections through one port to any customer on ECX Fabric, or to its own infrastructure within Equinix in the region. Customers can implement cost effective data replication and synchronization for business continuity, and enable inter-country connectivity to back up cloud instances.

Private interconnection is a rapidly growing business practice for leading companies as their industries become increasingly digital.

According to the Equinix Global Interconnection Index, the capacity for private data exchange between businesses is outpacing the public internet, growing at nearly twice the rate and is expected to comprise nearly six times the volume of global IP traffic by 2020. During this same period, Asia-Pacific is expected to grow 46% per annum to reach 1,120Tbps of installed capacity, approaching nearly a quarter (22%) of interconnection bandwidth globally.

As the world's leading companies increasingly shift to digital business models, interconnection with key business partners and customers is becoming an important element of their digital supply chain.

ECX Fabric enables customers to embrace digital transformation amid the rising demand for interconnection bandwidth for use cases including multi and hybrid cloud connectivity, business continuity and connecting distributed infrastructure.

In addition to Asia-Pacific, these new ECX Fabric capabilities are currently available in all ECX Fabric locations in the Americas and the EMEA regions, including Amsterdam, Atlanta, Chicago, Culpeper, Dallas, Denver, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Helsinki, London, Los Angeles, Manchester, Miami, Milan, Munich, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Stockholm, Toronto, Washington, D.C. and Zurich.

Today, there are more than 1,000 participants on ECX Fabric, including some of the world's largest enterprises, cloud service providers and SaaS providers, including Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Salesforce, SAP and ServiceNow, among others.
