Thailand's Dtac has contracted Ericsson to provide equipment for the operator's LTE expansion program.
The five-year deal covers the supply of 4G equipment in several major cities for Dtac's 2100-MHz LTE expansion program.
Ericsson will also help expand and upgrade Dtac's 3G networks, and supply professional services including planning, network rollout, integration, tuning and optimization.
“Dtac is in a strong position to capture market share and innovate to meet the growing demand for internet services in Thailand. We are firmly anchored to the strategy of delivering internet for all in Thailand,” Dtac CTO Khalid Shehzad said.
“We are looking forward to continuing our close cooperation with Ericsson and to expand our high-quality mobile broadband services to customers all over Thailand.”
In September, Dtac reappointed former CEO Sigve Brekke to the role as part of a transformation program aimed at responding to the end of the concession model for mobile operations.
Ericsson said that today 50% of the world's smartphone LTE traffic is being transmitted by the company's network infrastructure.
