China Telecom Global and Chinese data center operator Daily-Tech have teamed up with major data center developer Global Switch to open Global Switch's new HK$5 billion ($640 million) data center in Tseung Kwan O.

The new facility at the TKO Industrial Estate will become one of Hong Kong's largest carrier neutral multi-customer data centers, with 71,000 square meters of gross floor space and 100MVA of power supply.

Its location next to the TKO cable landing station and close proximity to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange hosting facility will allow the new center to act as a gateway into the Hong Kong market for multinational customers.

The facility has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, with a chilled water cooling system that reduces its carbon footprint. Global Switch is targeting a market leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.5.

Global Switch, China Telecom Global and Daily-Tech will use the data center to offer services including colocation, a range of networking services, network security services and supporting services such as a round-the-clock customer hotline.

The data center is targeting compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, 50001 and OHSAS 18001 international management standards.

“We’re delighted to achieve the significant milestone of launching services at this data center as a result of our strategic cooperation with Global Switch and Daily-Tech. CTG is focused on leading the development of world-class network services to facilitate our customers’ demands for globalization and digitalization,” China Telecom Global CEO Deng Xiaofeng said.

“Leveraging our cooperation partners’ complementary strengths and strategic collaboration, we will continue to provide high-value services to build a brighter future for globalization and informatization.”
