The list of "must-know" items for "cloud professional" can be longer than your weekend shopping list.

Some of the "must-know" items are software development, telecoms, network security, risk management and information security, preferably also knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements, plus a string of other soft skills.

According to Bradley Miller, managing director of recruitment agency Spring Professional, North East Asia, “cloud professionals” assume an encompassing role like a project manager but generally report directly to the CEOs.

"Cloud professionals" are currently in hot demand in the region and their pay packages vary according to their company size. Here is a yardstick given by Spring Professional: for a 2,000-people large corporate business in North Asia, that company may probably be paying HK$1.5 million ($193,251) per annum to cloud professionals, who had gained experience in implementing large scale cloud solutions in large corporates.

In an interview with Asia Cloud Forum, Spring Professional's Bradley Miller reveals what large corporates currently look for in a "cloud professional," how it is an "all-encompassing role," the general remuneration package an experienced cloud professional may expect from a 2,000-strong corporate, and how the latest cloud adoption rates in North Asia impact cloud-skills recruitment activities in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

Asia Cloud Forum: Cloud adoption in North Asia seems to be gathering speed, especially in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. Has this been reflected by increased cloud-related recruitment activities in these locations?

Bradley Miller: Cloud computing can be used in different areas of a corporate business: front office (sales, client relationship management), middle office (compliance, accounting), and back office (administration solutions).

Clients are looking to recruit cloud professionals in all three offices to work with systems like relationship management, databases, and data management, which turn data collected from clients into future sales solutions.
