Cisco claims to be in better shape to deliver high-speed networks, after closing its acquisition of optical interconnection technology specialist Lightwire.
The firm paid $271 million in cash and retention-based incentives for Lightwire, an acquisition Cisco states enables it to deliver cost-effective networks to service providers and data center customers, based on optical technology. The networks are designed to meet growing demand for video, data, voice, mobility and cloud services.
Cisco’s purchase price covers all Lightwire shares, and the firm’s employee base will now be integrated into Cisco’s transceiver modules, and supply chain operations divisions.
