Cisco is boosting its network analytics capabilities through the acquisition of US-based Truviso, a provider of network data analysis and reporting software.

The firm predicts the purchase will boost its intelligent networking services, by leveraging Truviso’s continuous query technology to offer real-time details of network and service usage. Such ability is crucial as rising numbers of end-user devices and network-connected applications fuel increases in the amount of data handled.

Jamie Lerner, vice president and general manager of Cisco’s Network Management Technology Group, says the acquisition will satisfy customer’s need “to be able to tap into, and better analyze, the enormous volume of data traversing their networks.”

The firm predicts the acquisition will close in its fiscal 4Q12 – the three months to end-July.
