Taiwan operator Chunghwa Telecom and its 3G vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) have rolled out a live FDD-LTE trial in Taiwan.
Nokia Siemens Networks said it would provide LTE core network and base stations.
Chunghwa Telecommunication Laboratories will test “LTE functionalities” and evaluate FDD-LTE’s performance, said the lab head Tu Yuan-Kuang.
“We will provide interworking testing with Taiwanese companies to develop terminals and foster our international competitiveness in a new arena,” Tu said.
On Friday, NSN said it planned to conduct the first trials in the region of LTE-TDD in co-operation with China Mobile and Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), starting May.
“China Mobile will bring its operational experience and application support to the trial, Nokia Siemens Networks will contribute its leading technologies and products, and NCTU will take advantage of this research program to help Taiwanese companies develop LTE devices,” Chung-Yu Wu, president of NCTU said.
