Chunghwa, Acer to launch telecom platform

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has teamed up with PC manufacturer Acer to develop a cloud-based enterprise communications platform.

Combining technology from both companies, the platform will provide secure telecom services, intelligent private corporate telephony networks and terminal equipment, Want China Timesreported.

The companies plan to target Taiwanese and multinational companies looking for a more efficient telephony platform.

Acer entered the telecom market last October via new subsidiary Acer Octon. The unit's debut offering is cloud-based PBX network abPBX plus. The platform functionality including IP-based videoconferencing, IM and file sharing.

The parent company will integrate its notebooks, tablets and smartphones with Acer Octon's network offerings.

Acer Octon is pursuing expansion in Taiwan, Europe and the US, and aims to turn a profit in its first year of operation.

Earlier this month, JPMorgan Chase upgraded its credit rating on Chunghwa Telecom shares from underweight to neutral.
