Chinese vendors Huawei, ZTE and Datang are reported to be the biggest winners once again in China Mobile’s 3G network tender.
The three companies have won as much as 70% of the value of the contracts in China Mobile’s fourth-round TD-SCDMA tenders, website sina.com reported Wednesday.
It said that in an effort to win market share, Huawei had bid low for the contract, which provides for the deployment of 102,000 base stations in 101 cities.
China Mobile has built out its network in 238 cities over the last two years. It spent 129 billion yuan ($19b) on its 2G and 3G networks in 2009-10 and this year expects to invest 123 billion yuan, of which 106 billion will go to its combined 2G/3G rollout.
According to Sina, Huawei won 28%-29% of the total, ZTE 22% and state-owned Datang Mobile 18%-19%.
Of the others, Nokia Siemens won 8%, Chinese government-owned Potevic and Postcom 6% each and Fiberhome and Ericsson 5% each.
ZTE, Huawei and Datang took the lion’s share of the last TD tender, announced last December.
