Some 90-95% of video games in emerging markets are said to be pirated, but there is a wider range of business models that allow firms to cash in while addressing issues like piracy and affordability, according to Pyramid Research.
Pyramid Research analyst Jan ten Sythoff said in the report titled "Mobile Gaming: A Pirate-Free Future?" games based on virtual worlds with in-game transactions, for instance, are gaining traction, as seen by the strong performance of Chinese mobile content provider KongZhong.
The global mobile gaming market is evolving fast on account of mobile adoption, and is expected to grow at a 16.6% CAGR to $18 billion in the five years to 2014.
