Statistics from China'sMinistry of Information Industry show that Chinese users of PHShandset had reached 93 million by the end of this August, and statistics from the organization for promoting internationalization of PHS show that the overseas users of PHS handset had exceeded 7 million.
In view of the distinct advantages in health concerns and environmental protection, PHS handset would still be a major source of revenue growth for fixed-line carriers in the considerable long term, as long as it is correctly positioned in the market and its market potential is explored deeply, the agency said.
PHS services will also meet the demand of low- and middle-income class, said Zeng Jianqiu, a professor from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
China Telecom and China Netcom, two leading fixed-line carriers in the nation, have recently launched creative businesses, which strengthen the market competitiveness of PHS handset to a large extent.
