China Unicom, ZTE and HP have jointly completed a proof-of-concept trial of NFV-based VoLTE services.
The companies used a range of virtual EPC and IMS equipment and systems provided by ZTE to test end-to-end VoLTE services in a virtualized environment using equipment from different vendors.
Testing included interoperability of various functions and interfaces, as well as VNF lifecycle management, disaster recovery and maintenance management.
In order to comply with ETSI reference architecture, the project used a Blade server from HP and a virtualized infrastructure manager provided by both ZTE and HP.
“ZTE is committed to development of NFV and cloud-based network technologies, cooperating with operators and technology providers around the world in proof of concept projects,” the company said in a statement.
“To date, ZTE’s virtualized core network solutions are deployed five commercial and 28 trial projects globally.”
