Two China Unicom subsidiaries have awarded managed maintenance services deals to Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent.

Huawei was on Monday awarded a contract to provide preventive, planned and corrective maintenance services for Shanghai Unicom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Unicom. The contract covers more than half of Shanghai Unicom’s base station sites, spanning Shanghai’s 11 districts.

According to a release from Huawei, the agreement will allow the operator to concentrate fully on ensuring network quality.

Fujian Unicom, another wholly-owned China Unicom subsidiary, has meanwhile chosen Alcatel-Lucent for the management of its mobile and fixed networks in Xiamen and Nanping, in China’s south-east.

A statement from Alcatel-Lucent said the vendor was in charge of delivering “high-quality networks and service” to customers in Fujian, while the Fujian Unicom focused on developing new consumer services.

Shanghai Unicom had earlier this month also awarded a five-year maintenance contract to Nokia Siemens Networks, which covered base stations, transmission and fixed line networks.
