The Chinese and Taiwanese governments have settled on G.hn as the standard for wireline networks in both nations.
The Cross-Strait Forum on Information Industry and Technology Standards – consisting of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Taiwan’s SINOCON Industrial Standards Foundation – has agreed to adopt G.hn as the default wireline network standard.
Both China and Taiwan will conduct technical exchanges and applied research work in the area, according to the translation of a consensus sumary.
The agreement also covers collaboration on 5G research and development ahead of its anticipated standardization in 2020.
The two countries will also conduct more research into the TD-LTE ecosystem - including common standards for TD-LTE VoLTE, TD-LTE chipsets to enhance multi-mode, multi-band capabilities for smart devices and methods of improving TD-LTE hotspot/indoor coverage.
China and Taiwan joined forces in 2012 to jointly develop TD-LTE standards and set up 4G research and test programs. The nations have been collaborating on telecom standardization and related issues since 2009, shortly after the Beijing-friendly Ma Ying-jeou was elected president of Taiwan in 2008.
