China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile carrier by subscribers, has completed the first phase of its data center in Xiangyang and put it into operation this week.
The new data center, located in the Xiangyang Hi-tech Industry Development Zone of Hubei Province, is now offering data operation, storage and transmission services to 23 internet companies, enterprises and municipalities, a report by government-owned People’s Daily Online says.
The Xiangyang data center, which is scheduled to be completed in four phases, will have a planned floor area of 327,000 square meters.
China Mobile began the construction of the date center in March 2013.
The first-phase of the data center covers more than 20,000 square meters of space, comprising six main areas: the enterprise cloud center, the logistics regional center, the regional network maintenance center, the comprehensive production area, the business innovative research and development center and the ancillary buildings.
It offers over 10,000 servers, as well as IT operations and maintenance.
Upon the completion of the four-phase project, the Xiangyang data center will become the largest one in Central China with 144,000 square meters of gross area, an executive at Hubei Mobile said.
