China Mobile International has established a new Japan office in Tokyo to support its expansion in the market ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games.

The new office will provide localized telecommunications services for Chinese enterprises in Japan, as well as offering a communication bridge for Japanese companies to access the Chinese market and the countries involved in China's Belt and Road initiative.

It will also seek to promote interconnectivity of ICT infrastructure and strengthen international cooperation in emerging technologies such as 5G and IoT.

The expansion forms part of China Mobile's Big Connectivity strategy, which involves an ambition of globalizing its business to meet increasing global data consumption demands.

As apart of the strategy, China Mobile International is accelerating its global network expansion. It currently owns 40 submarine and terrestrial cables and 138 points of presence worldwide. The company is also participating in the construction of the NCP and SJC2 subsea cable systems.

"The 2020 Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, which will predictably bring many business opportunities to Japan. And the number of tourists from all over the world, especially China, will increase significantly,”commented Song Yaoming, minister of the economic and commercial office of the Chinese embassy in Japan.

“Communications services are becoming one of the key development priorities in Japan's infrastructure construction. The establishment of the CMI Japan office will not only provide convenience for Chinese and Japanese companies to expand their businesses, but also provide the tourists more preferential roaming charges and better services.”
