(SinoCast via NewsEdge) China Mobile will implement new rules governing its caller ring back tone (CRBT) business in southern China's Guangdong Province, as it aims to expand its cooperation with its CRBT service providers.
Under the new rules, CRBT service providers should have a registered capital of more than 30 million yuan ($3.8 million) and a minimum of 300 songs with full copyright. They should not offer less than 100 songs in their online service.
A China Mobile source said the company would soon sign new CRBT business contracts with service providers, with a provision stating that all copyright-related disputes and responsibilities entailed in rolling out CRBT services should be borne by the service providers only.
The new rules also state that China Mobile will terminate contracts with all CRBT service providers that will figure in the bottom 10%, in terms of revenues, for two to three consecutive months. These "eliminated" service providers will not be allowed to apply for another deal within six months of terminated.
