Thai state-owned Operator CAT Telecom is deploying a nationwide TETRA digital mission-critical communications network for government agencies, emergency services and critical industries.

The operator has contracted Motorola Solutions to deploy the shared operator system, which will have the capacity to serve more than 200,000 users. Deployment of the network is well underway, Motorola said in a statement.

Motorola Solutions will incorporate its broadband-enabled push-to-talk platform into the solution, enabling seamless communications between users of radios, smartphones, tablets, desktop computers and other devices.

The system will also provide capabilities including location services to pinpoint radio users in the field, to provide an improved response to large scale emergency events.

Motorola Solutions GM for emerging Asia Marcel Verdonk said the system is being designed to support Thailand's ongoing growth by providing the flexibility to add large numbers of users over time.
“Any country experiencing significant growth in infrastructure, innovation, education and skills requires an advanced communications system. This TETRA system will support Thailand’s continuing investment in infrastructure modernization as well as job creation through its construction,” he said.

“The network will give emergency services and businesses improved coverage and capacity to support their everyday needs as well as having the capacity and resilience to support major events.”
