BSNL plans to scale up its pilot triple play broadband service nationally by September.

This value added service on ADSL broadband modem includes cable service, video on demand and e-education.

Parts of this service are being run as a pilot in Pune.

'We are currently testing the cable service and video on demand and the trials for e-education will start from 15th August. After these trials, it will be implemented nationally by September,' said GK Agarwal, principal general manager, Pune telecom circle.

BSNL has added 10 new exchanges to the existing eight in Pune so that there is at least one exchange within an area of 3 km. to 4 km. This was done to enable the trial of these value added services.

E-education or e-learning will also be provided on broadband network, the content for which is being designed by Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). 'We will provide curricular as well as extra curricular enrichment content for everyone including school students and professionals,' said MKCL MD Vivek Sawant.

The cable service will function in co-ordination with local cable operators who will provide cable connection on broadband. Hence the computer users can get access to various channels without the TV tuner card, directly using the modem and the telephone.
