Telecoms equipment vendor ARRIS International has acquired the Ruckus Wireless and ICX Switch businesses of chipmaker Broadcom as part of plans to expand into new enterprise and vertical markets.

The $800 million acquisition was first announced in February. With the deal complete, Ruckus Wireless will be rebranded to “Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company”, operating as a dedicated business under ARRIS' Enterprise Networks division.

Ruckus Networks will focus on the delivery of wireless and wired network infrastructure to the enterprise market. The ICX switching family of products will also be brought into this portfolio.

“I'm proud to welcome the 1,700 talented Ruckus Wireless and ICX Switch Business employees into the ARRIS family. It's an important milestone, not only for ARRIS but for our industries. " ARRIS CEO Bruce McClelland said.

"Ruckus' unmatched expertise in wireless and wired networking perfectly complements our growth strategy of driving towards a constantly connected, mobile future. The acquisition brings diversification to our portfolio, building on our strength in networking and helping us to serve new verticals."

In a blog post, Ruckus Networks' new president Dan Rabinovitsj said the new company will be able to take advantage of the scale and reach of the ARRIS business.

“Ruckus Networks is now integrated into a large and stable business with the potential for greater investment and ambition,” he said.

“This will become manifest in manufacturing, operations and supply chain but also in R&D where we will be able to tap into complementary skill sets and know-how from DOCSIS to Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Optical communications.”

The combined company will also be able to double down on its investments in IaaS, CBRS and OpenG LTE networks, he added.
