(Korea Times via NewsEdge) Arirang-2, South Korea's multi-purpose satellite that was launched late last month from Russia, had started taking high-resolution pictures with its embedded camera.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute released several airborne photos of Arirang-2, which included those of Mt. Paektu, the highest peak on the Korean Peninsula, and the airports and harbors of San Francisco and Cape Town.

"In order to test the camera of Arirang-2, we took several photos and the quality is fine," said Lee Joo-jin, director at the state-run institute. "Arirang-2 will begin taking pictures in a full-fledged manner late next month. We are currently fine-tuning the process."
