Apple has filed another patent complaint against Nokia, escalating the bitter dispute between the two handset heavyweights, while camera-maker Kodak has filed a suit against Apple and RIM.
The US smartphone-maker filed a fresh complaint in the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday, expanding its initial filing. Details of the fresh complaint, posted on the ITC website, were not available.
Nokia filed its own complaint at the ITC last month, seeking to ban imports of Apple’s iPhone, iPod and MacBook products.
The handset leader said it would defend itself vigorously against the new complaint, a spokesperson toldReuters.
If the ITC agrees to consider Apple’s complaint, it could complete the investigation in about 15 months, Bloomberg said.
The legal battle began in October when Nokia filed a patent suit in a Delaware court, alleging Apple was using some of its patented wireless technologies without paying for them. It filed in the ITC in December, claiming that Apple breached its “in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers.”
In a court case filed in December, Apple said Nokia had infringed 13 of its technologies.
Meanwhile, Kodak has alleged that both the iPhone and Blackberry use technology for previewing pictures that infringe its patents.
It has also filed two separate suits against Apple that claim infringements of patents relating to digital cameras and certain computer processes, BBC reported.
It has asked the ITC to prohibit both companies from shipping devices containing the technologies and has asked for damages.
