Alibaba Cloud Computing (Aliyun) will soon offer cloud computing services from Hong Kong through its collaboration with Towngas Telecom, the companies announced earlier this week.

Located at Towngas Telecom’s data center facility in Tseung Kwan O, Aliyun’s data center in Hong Kong is its first in the city. The collaboration with Towngas Telecom is expected to connect Aliyun with global telecommunications providers and expand Aliyun’s services to foreign companies.

“Hong Kong has geographical and market advantages with a well-developed and stable network,” said Aliyun President Jian Wang. “From now on, any worldwide internet corporation can choose China’s superior cloud computing services to improve their operation efficiency.”

As a subsidiary of the China’s e-commerce leader Alibaba Group, Aliyun was established since 2009 and has been offering cloud computing power and other Internet-based computing services to sellers, third-party service providers on Alibaba Group’s marketplaces. Currently, more than 100,000 corporate websites, operating systems and applications run on Aliyun.

The Hong Kong data center will be Aliyun’s fourth location. Other data centers are located in Hangzhou, Qingdao and Beijing.

“It is our honor to collaborate with Aliyun,” said general manager of Towngas Telecom Jason Wong. “Towngas Telecom is committed to developing telecommunication infrastructures and providing the industry with reliable and leading data centre network and cloud computing services.”
